About Thrix
Thrix is a powerful online reference checker and editor. It helps students, researchers, and editors cross-check, validate, and correctly format reference lists, bibliographies, and in-text citations.
Thrix also automatically adds missing details like page numbers and DOIs, and can apply editorial styles including APA, AMA, Chicago, or Vancouver.
Thrix was launched in 2018, and is made by Shabash Ltd.
About Shabash Ltd
Shabash Ltd is a UK-based software company with over 20 years of experience building advanced tools for automated text processing and editorial workflows. Our products are used by thousands of academic researchers, copy editors, students, and publishers, in over 100 countries.
As well as Thrix, we’re also the creators of Merops, an advanced platform that brings the same automated editing power to entire documents. Merops is fully customizable, comes with an API, and has additional advanced features like document analysis, and bespoke markup.
Our CEO, Joe Steinhardt, has been with Shabash since 2003, and took over leadership in 2022. Since then, we’ve launched Thrix Premium, more than doubled document-processing speed, and added support for MLA/author–page references.
The name Shabash comes from the Urdu word meaning ‘excellent!’ It’s often shouted in celebration on the cricket pitch, a nod to our founder Martin Clutterbuck’s love of the game.

Our approach to sustainability and climate impact
We believe we all have a responsibility to minimize our impact on the climate. As a software company, we’re mindful of the environmental footprint of the technologies we use.
Our core technology doesn’t rely on energy- and water-intensive neural networks, and we choose renewable energy sources where possible. We keep our emissions low by regularly working remotely, and we avoid flying unless it’s absolutely essential.
As a result, our carbon footprint is already very small, and we’re working to offset what remains to achieve carbon neutral status as soon as possible.
